“Shelter” is an insulation structure above the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, built by November 1986 after the explosion of the reactor of the 4th power unit. The construction required 400 thousand cubic meters of concrete mixture and 7,000 tons of metal structures. It was built in the shortest possible time - 206 days. 90 thousand people were involved in the construction of the structure. The author and technical director of the project is V. A. Kurnosov, the scientific director of the project is V. G. Asmolov, the head of installation work is V. I. Rudakov. The Shelter was later given the unofficial name "Sarcophagus".
